Home Away from Home

In this PRC Stories feature, we get a glimpse of life in Mallorca during the off-season through Marianne Christensen's perspective and why cashmere is always a good idea to bring.

Marianne Christensen is a highly regarded and versatile danish line producer and producer. For more than 25 years she has been pulling the strings behind the scenes, working with the likes of Anne Wivel, Bille August, Gustav Møller, Jørgen Leth, and May El-Toukhy.

Mallorca seems to be a place you keep coming back to. Why is that?

Out of season, Mallorca has everything: beautiful nature, fresh air, great food, lovely weather, and friendly people.

Which 5 items are the must-haves in your suitcase and why?

Books (paper versions), jeans, white shirts, Converse shoes, and cashmere – I have a tendency to wear a uniform that I can dress up or down with jewelry. Cashmere is always in my suitcase wherever I go. It's soft, warm, and comes in bright colours. It's a must-have.

Why is cashmere important for you both in Denmark and when you are in Mallorca?

A cashmere sweater is like a friend – it keeps you warm, lasts long, and makes every outfit better. A bathing suit and cashmere are one of my favourite combinations for a windy beach.

What book did you bring for your trip?

"Rytteren og den rejsende", by Bastian Emil Goldschmidt.

What was the latest movie you watched?

"Lee".

Do you have a typical Mallorcan routine?

Mostly, I spend my time outside, either reading or walking in nature. I also enjoy food shopping at Mercat Olivar in Palma de Mallorca or at local markets.

Any local Mallorca tips you would like to share with us?

Museo de la Fundación Juan March in Palma de Mallorca, free entry, located in a 16th-century palace, quiet and beautiful. And at the station in Sóller, there is a tiny museum – a room with Picasso and a room with Miró – which is always worth a visit.
